HEAD COACH DOUG RUSH

Doug is entering his 12th season as Head Baseball Coach of the Tomball Cougars. The Cougars have been very successful during this time posting a 288-103 overall record with a staggering 70 wins in the playoffs. Not counting the covid year of 2020 they have won 5 District Championships, 10 Bi-District Championships, 8 Area Championships, and have been to the State Tournament twice. In 2013 the Cougars won the State Championship.

A native of Denton, Texas; Rush played collegiately at North Texas State University (now U.N.T.) where he was a four year starting pitcher. Rush’s Denton baseball days spanned from 1974 through 1992. He came up through the Denton Boys Baseball system, played at Denton High School, played for North Texas State University, and then for 7 seasons was the Assistant Baseball Coach at Denton High School. During that time he also coached the Denton Blue Jays, who were a successful summer collegiate team made up of North Texas players and other current or former collegiate players in the DFW area.

Rush has coached 37 seasons at both the college and high school level. This season will be his 28th season as a Head Baseball Coach. Coach Rush has 536 overall wins heading into the 2023 season and has won multiple District Coach of the Year, Houston Area Coach of the Year, and also a State Coach of the Year Award. He has been Regional Director of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and in 2014 was selected to coach in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches All Star Game. Coach Rush is married to Sara Fois Rush, who is the Principal at Oakcrest Intermediate. They are proud parents of three children, and also grand-parents to three grand-children.
